About Lions

Since 1917, Lions clubs have offered people the opportunity to give something back to their communities. From involving members in projects as local as cleaning up an area park or as far-reaching as bringing sight to the world's blind, Lions clubs have always embraced those committed to building a brighter future for their community.

Today with more than 44,600 clubs in 190 countries and geographical areas, Lions have expanded their focus to help meet the ever-increasing needs of our global community.

Our programs are continually changing to meet new needs and greater demands, but our mission has never wavered: We Serve. Mission statement of Lions Clubs International: TO CREATE AND FOSTER A SPIRIT OF UNDERSTANDING AMONG ALL PEOPLE FOR HUMANITARIAN NEEDS BY PROVIDING VOLUNTARY SERVICES THROUGH COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT AND INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION
History of the Liberty Hill Morning Lions Club

Elwood Arnold of the Balcones Lions Club of Austin, Texas made many trips to Liberty Hill in late summer and early fall of 1988. He talked to people up and down the country roads, and so enthusiastically presented the case for Lionism that a new club was formed in Liberty Hill.

With Elwood as the Guiding Lion, officers were elected, a constitution and by-laws were accepted, and a charter night was planned. The Charter Night was held Monday, January 30, 1989, at 7:00pm at the Liberty Hill High School. The sponsoring club, Balcones Lions Club of Austin, provided the new club with most of the paraphernalia needed.

The master of ceremonies for the event was PDG J.L. Akridge, songs were led by PDG David Slider, tail twister duties were performed by the late PDG Joe Robinson. Leo Ogea introduced the District Governor Webe Ray, who in turn, introduced the main speaker, Past International Director C. Howard Leverett.
